Hyaluronic acid, sometimes described as a gel or viscosupplement injection, is intended to supplement the fluid within a joint. Individual responses vary and it should not be presented as a cure, cartilage replacement or guaranteed way to avoid surgery.
UK NICE guidance says not to offer intra-articular hyaluronan injections for osteoarthritis. Other international guidance and studies have reached different conclusions for selected patients. Because of this disagreement, any discussion must be transparent about uncertainty, cost, alternatives and your individual circumstances.

Does it regrow knee cartilage?+
There is no reliable basis for promising that a hyaluronic acid injection will regrow cartilage or reverse osteoarthritis.

Guidelines and interpretations of the research differ internationally, and some people report symptom improvement. That does not remove the uncertainty or replace individual clinical assessment.
